Rosalía de Castro es una de las escritoras más representativas del Romanticismo español. Pero tras esta frase se esconde un duro y trágico, y también valiente camino de una mujer del siglo XIX que se lanzó a hacer lo que sólo estaba otorgado a los hombres: escribir.

Y se lanzó a ello con el arrojo que recuerda a aquellos primeros mártires cristianos que cantaban y rezaban en el Coliseo frente a los leones, frente a una muerte segura ante el asombro de la multitud.

Rosalía sabía lo que le esperaba, pero también sabía que era lo que tenía que hacer y para lo que había nacido. Su vida siempre estuvo cargada de polémica: hija de una mujer soltera y de un sacerdote. Eso le supuso siempre un gran estigma.

Pero en su camino se cruzó un hombre con el que se casó y tuvo 6 hijos, un hombre que la apoyó en su carrera, algo poco cotidiano para un hombre de la época.

La obra de Rosalía está marcada por su carácter simbólico y la denuncia social, un grito feminista y una profunda melancolía. Brillante tanto en la prosa como en el verso. Entre sus más importantes obras están "La hija del mar", "Cantares gallegos", "En las orillas del Sar", y "Follas Novas".

Pero Rosalía no aspiraba a la fama, tan solo a expresar lo que sentía. Fue su marido, el brillante cronista Manuel Murguia quien hizo lo imposible para que se publicaran sus obras. Pese a esto, siempre hubo rumores de que su matrimonio no fue feliz. Todos sus hijos se murieron antes que ella, y su salud no fue nunca muy buena.

Pero Rosalía se fue pronto, tan solo con 48 años, aunque nos dejó una serie de obras impecables, sentidas, emotivas, sufridas y disfrutadas.

Rosalia de Castro is one of the most representative writers of the Spanish Romanticism. But behind this phrase hides a hard and tragic, but also brave way of life of a XIX century woman, that pushed herself to make what was only allowed to men: writing. 

And she did it with the bravery that reminds us of the first Christian martyrs, that sung and prayed in the Coliseum in front of the lions, facing a certain death and in front of the eyes of an astonished crowd.

Rosalia knew what would happen to her, but she also knew that what she had to do and what she was born for. Her life was always filled with controversy: daughter of an unmarried woman and a priest. This always supposed a big  stigma.

But in his way, she meet a man with whom she married and had 6 children, a man that supported her in her career, something not usual for a man of that time.

The works of Rosalia have a strong symbolic meaning and social denounce, a feminist claim, and a deep melancholy. Brilliant both in prose as in verse. Between her most important works there are "The daughter of the sea", "Galician songs", "At the shore of Sar", and "Follas Novas".

But Rosalia did not seek fame, just expressing what she felt. It was her husband, the brilliant journalist Manuel Murguia who did everything to get her works published. In spite of this, there were always rumors that said that their marriage was not happy. All her children died before her, and her health was never too good.

But Rosalia soon left us, when she was only 48, although she left us a series of impeccable, deeply felt, emotive, suffered and enjoyed works.
