“SATIRA DEL SUICIDIO ROMANTICO” es una obra de Leonardo Alenza (Madrid 1807- id.845). Alenza representa, con su vida atormentada, el arquetipo de pintor romántico. Sin embargo, muchas de sus obras son una burla de la exageración de los sentimientos que trajo el Romanticismo. El escritor Javier Payeras se inspira en este cuadro para su relato. |

Théodore Géricault Right, so where does this lead? He was an important French painter, but why was he? The idea of becoming important in the art world is illusive, perplexing, and meaningless. That one, with determination and talent, can be plucked out of obscurity by jeweled hands, and thrust into a world that holds art in highest regard is ideal, for the painter, but not a reality. |

Eugene Delacroix’s oil on canvas titled The Death of Sardanapalus is approximately 12’1” by 16’3”, was finished in 1827, and is currently displayed in Paris at the Louvre. In this article, I will show the methods used in the Delacroix’s image, influences that inspired the image, and the power structure the image is promoting.
