El califa Harun al-Rashid es protagonista de muchas de las historias de Las mil y una noches.
Harun al-Rashid fue el quinto califa de la dinastía Abásida, quien comenzó su reinado en el año 786. Este califa promovió la investigación científica y fundó una importante biblioteca. Su hijo, Abd Allah al-Mamún, séptimo califa, alentó la búsqueda del conocimiento científico aún más que su padre al-Rashid, estableciendo en Bagdad una institución de investigación y traducción: la Casa de la Sabiduría. En la Casa se tradujeron las obras de Euclides, Diofanto, Arquímedes, y otros clásicos de la ciencia griega. |

"One Thousand And One Nights" is maybe one of the most influential collection of tales, being the favorite book of great contemporary writers.

“Las Mil y Una Noches” surge como la mentira de una mentirosa encerrada en un texto de mil rostros. Fue el sultán Shahriar quien, tras descubrir el adulterio de su mujer, decide asesinarla y pedir una mujer por noche al visir (claro está, para posteriormente asesinarlas a la mañana). Las noches de diversión y las mañanas de júbilo terminan cuando aparece Sherezade quien, gracias a la narración de un cuento, logra entretener al buen hombre y así salvar la vida.. |
