Near Sandycove, not far from Dublin, beside a pleasant little harbour, we find this tower built in 1804 to prevent Ireland of Napoleonic invasion. However, it has become famous as the setting for the opening of Ulysses by James Joyce.

The museum was opened in 1962, featuring memorabilia, letters and first editions of Joyce’s works.

It is similar to other defensive towers which run along the Irish cost. In 1904, Oliver St. John Gogarty rented it and he invited James Joyce. They did not get on well and four days after, Gogarty shot Joyce who had to run away in the middle of the night.
It is a place of pilgrimage for Joyce enthusiasts, especially on Bloomsday.

Cerca de Sandycove, a las afueras de Dublín y junto a un encantador puertecito, encontramos esta torre construida en 1804 para prevenir a la isla de las invasiones napoleónicas. Sin embargo, se ha hecho famosa como el lugar donde comienza el Ulises de James Joyce. El museo se abrió en 1962 y exhibe recuerdos, cartas y primeras ediciones de los trabajos del autor.
Es similar a otras torres defensivas que salpican la costa irlandesa. En 1904, Oliver St. John Gogarty alquiló esta e invitó a Joyce. No se llevaron nada bien y cuatro días después, Gogarty disparó al escritor que debió escapar en medio de la noche.
Lugar de peregrinaje para los entusiastas de Joyce, especialmente en Bloomsday.

One of the greatest puppet museums in the world. Its nearly 3500 puppets and its valuable library of 3000 books (specialized in theatre puppets and popular opera) can fill everybody’s imagination with magic and colour.
The puppets on display are handmade antiques. They are the evidence of a Sicilian tradition which has been immortalizing its history and legends in painted wood: Charlemagne, Saracen pirates, William the Bad… All of them are there waiting for you.
The collection includes puppets crafted in other parts of the world, from Western Europe to the Far East… Chinese shadows, performances, lectures: Do not miss it!

Uno de los mayores museos de marionetas del mundo. Sus cerca de 3.500 marionetas y su valiosa biblioteca de 3500 libros (sobre todo teatro de títeres y opereta) pueden llenar de magia y color la imaginación de cualquier persona a cualquier edad.
