However, this approach ignores an important point. The name Kayin (Cain) means metal worker. Cain’s offering of the fruits of the earth does not mean that he was a farmer. His association with metal work is further indicated in Genesis 4:20-22 which tells us that Jabal was the ancestor of tent-dwelling herdsmen, Jubal the ancestor of pipers and flautists, and Tubal-Cain the ancestor of metalworkers. |

Hermanos, queridos hermanos: Caín y Abel ¿Realmente le quería? No se puede decir, tampoco negar. Hinqué suavemente el cuchillo en su costado y la sangre brotó plena. Le miré a los ojos antes de morir una vez más. Sí, algo dentro de mí se marchaba con él, con la mirada lenta del que no se arrepiente. ¿Existe acaso mayor ostentación? Con mi cuchillo no le mataba a él, pobre cordero hinchado, pobre animal enfermo… le mataba a él, a mi padre y a los que han de nacer. Con este cuchillo que se desliza eterno y desgarra sus entrañas. Sí, le quería y nunca más volvería a sentir semejante placer. |
