Dedicated to the Austrian army. The museum is installed in a wonderful castle built by Theophil Hansen in 1856.
Two floors. On the ground, you can see exhibitions about the Turkish siege (1683), about the wars of the 18th century and against Napoleon but, above all, interesting material of the First World War and its beginning: the assassination on 28 June 1914 of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. The museum has got Franz’s car, uniform and arms.
A collection of tanks is behind the building, including the German tanks of the Second World War.
You can also enjoy with the sculptures, canvas and illustrations and to appreciate, especially on the top floor, the beautiful architecture of this neobyzantine castle.
Museo Militar de Viena “El Arsenal”
Está dedicado a la historia del ejercito austriaco e instalado en un maravilloso castillo construido por Theophil Hansen en 1856.
Tiene dos plantas. En la baja, se pueden ver exposiciones del asedio turco de 1683, de las guerras del siglo XVIII y contra Napoleón pero, sobre todo, interesantísimo material de la Primera Guerra Mundial y su desencadenante: el asesinato el 28 de Junio de 1914 del archiduque Francisco Fernando, heredero al trono de Austria-Hungría. El museo guarda el coche, uniforme y armas del magnicidio.
Una colección de tanques, incluyendo los alemanes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se halla en la parte trasera del edificio.
También se puede disfrutar con esculturas y óleos y, especialmente en la planta alta, con la bellísima arquitectura neobizantina del castillo. Contact: Isabel del Río, arts editor:
