This exhibition studies some of the oldest Basque myths and legends. The pagan Basque tradition pursued by the Spanish Inquisition during centuries. The most terrible consequence was the burning of eleven people the 7th of November, 1610, in Logroño (Spain).

You can see the inquisitorial documents which accused more than 2.000 people –including children- of sorcery from 1609 to 1614 in a process which started in Zugarramurdi (Navarra) and finished in the “Auto de Fe” of Logroño. But you can also read about the clever Alonso de Salazar y Frías, a brave inquisitor who criticized the way of obtaining the information (tortures) and the veracity of the whole process: “Here, witches and sorcery started the day we began to look for them and never before”.
The exhibition includes videos, audios and multimedia material.

Esta exposición estudia algunos de los mitos y leyendas más antiguos del País Vasco. La tradición pagana perseguida por la Inquisición española durante siglos. La peor consecuencia fue la quema de once personas el 7 de noviembre de 1610 en Logroño (España).
Se pueden apreciar los documentos originales que acusaron a más de dos mil personas, incluyendo niños, de brujería entre 1609 y 1614 en un proceso que empezó en Zugarramurdi (Navarra) y que terminó en el Auto de Fe de Logroño. Pero también se puede conocer la labor del prudente Alonso de Salazar y Frías, un valiente inquisidor que criticó el modo de obtener la información (tortura) y la veracidad de todo el proceso: “Nunca hubo brujas ni brujería hasta el día en que empezamos a hablar de ellas”.
La exposición incluye videos, audios y material interactivo.
