During the 16th and 17th centuries, while Italy or France were creating marvelous sculptures in bronze and marble, Spanish master pieces were made of wood,  polychromatic wood, with an extremely realistic final result.

In Valladolid, we find the biggest museum of the county dedicated to this artistic branch. Three buildings (the palace of Villena is one of them), hundreds of master pieces and the most famous ancient sculptures.The thematic is mostly religious, an exaltation of Jesus’ passion and of the most dreadful martyrdoms of the Christian saints.

Shocking, fantastic, impressed, terrible master pieces which scare our eyes… more than a gore film. Specially frightful is GREGORIO FERNANDEZ (1576-1636). If you have the opportunity, do not lose this museum.

Durante los siglos XVI y XVII, mientras Italia o Francia creaba maravillosa esculturas en bronce y mármol, las obras maestras españolas se hacían en madera, madera policromada, con un realismo extremo.

En Valladolid, encontramos el mayor museo del país dedicado a esta rama del Arte. Tres edificios (el palacio de Villena es uno de ellos), cientos de obras maestras y de los escultores antiguos más conocidos. La temática es mayoritariamente religiosa, una exaltación de la pasión de Jesucristo y de los más horribles martirios de los santos cristianos.

Espeluznantes, fantásticas, terribles, perfectas obras escultóricas que atemorizan nuestros ojos… más que una película sangrienta. Especialmente desmedido y tremendo es GREGORIO FERNANDEZ (1576-1636). Si tenéis la oportunidad, acudid a este museo.
