Moved by the uncompromising working style of Salvador Dali, I try to learn and implement the classic painting techniques in order to depict my own esoteric symbolism. Inspiration lies in the architecture of the psyche and art is the means of expressing it and bring it to life.

I want to believe that my work, as is the art of surrealism, reflects an unconscious perception of the Cosmos and the divinity of mankind exploring the true symbols in mythology, philosophy and religion beyond any kind of dogmas as we know and experience them with our conscious mind. But, as it is said, if you can describe it with words why bother paint it!

What is more important in art is the feel of creativity, that heavenly moment of inspiration. Nothing can be compared to that sensation of the divine, instant conception of the Idea, of what to create, what to paint.

Equally important and enjoyable, of course, it is the craftsmanship of painting itself: preparing the canvas, mixing colours and mediums, understanding their chemistry, the way they “behave”. Being a self-taught artist, every painting is an exercise that helps me learn and become better technically, every stroke is the stroke of acquisition of experience, the experience of Art!

¿Qué es el arte?

Movido por el inflexible estilo de trabajo de Salvador Dalí, trato de aprender y aplicar las técnicas de la pintura clásica para representar mi propio simbolismo esotérico. La inspiración recae en la arquitectura de la psique y el arte es el medio de expresarla y darle vida.

Quiero creer que mi trabajo, igual que el surrealismo, refleja una percepción inconsciente del Cosmos y de la divinidad de la humanidad al explorar los verdaderos símbolos de la mitología, filosofía y religión, más allá de ninguna clase de dogmas, tal y como los conocemos y experimentamos con nuestra mente consciente. Pero, como se ha dicho,  ¡si puedes describir esto con palabras por qué preocuparte de pintarlo!

Lo que es más importante en el Arte es el sentimiento de creatividad, ese divino momento de inspiración. Nada puede ser comparado con la sensación del sagrado instante de la concepción de la Idea, de qué crear, qué pintar.

Igualmente importante y satisfactorio es, desde luego, la artesanía de pintarlo: preparar el lienzo, mezclar los colores y medios, entender su química, el modo en que se “comportan”. Siendo un artista autodidacta, cada pintura es un ejercicio que me ayuda a aprender y mejorar mi técnica, cada pincelada es la pincelada que me da conocimiento, ¡la experiencia del Arte!

Vangelis Fitsios was born in Greece but has been living in Copenhagen, Denmark for the last 5 years. Even though he holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering he has chosen to do what he was meant to:  paint! He is a self-taught artist and begun to paint only in 2004 after Dali’s philosophy: that is to see the world with kids’ eyes but paint it like the old masters.

 Vangelis Fitsios nace en Grecia pero ha vivido en Copenhague, Dinamarca, durante los últimos 5 años. Aunque tiene un MSc en ingeniería medioambiental, ha elegido hacer lo que para él significa más: ¡pintar! Es un artista autodidacta que empezó a pintar en el 2004, influenciado por la filosofía de Dalí: significa ver el mundo con los ojos de un niño pero pintar como los viejos maestros.
