An eclectic collection of furniture and works of art from Cherkley Court, the former home of Lord Beaverbrook, will be auctioned over the coming months at Berkshire saleroom.
Lord Beaverbrook was a giant of the 20th century political world and his home, Cherkley Court, played host to many notable politicians, writers and musicians of the day. Regular visitors included Winston Churchill, Bonar Law, Lloyd George, Chamberlain, HG Wells, Joe Kennedy, Rudyard Kipling and Ian Fleming.
Unusual highlights include an Art Deco Suite and standard lamp from Churchill’s former bedroom at Cherkley Court. The wider collection includes furniture and works of art – from all periods – collected by Lord Beaverbrook as he refurbished the house.
Offered over four sales in February and March, the collection will be sold to benefit the Beaverbrook Foundation which supports a variety of causes in the United Kingdom and Canada, including preserving heritage buildings and supporting charitable appeals.
