Outlander season 2. Dutch actress Lotte Verbeek portrayed Geillis Duncan in Outlander season 1. It seemed that she was burned as a witch, making a sacrifice which saved Claire (Caitriona Balfe) from being executed too. However in August 2015, we knew that Verbeek would be returning in the role of Geillis in season 2. What can we expect from this reappearance? It’s thrilling! Remember that Geillis Duncan is the name of a real woman tried as a witch in the 16th century in Scotland.
Geillis Duncan was the wife of the procurator fiscal, Arthur Duncan, but started an affair with Dougal MacKenzie and supports the Jacobite cause. She shares Claire’s passion for herbs, though her interests extend beyond simple healing and remedies into much darker practices.
When Dougal’s brother, the Chieftain of the MacKenzies, discovers that she is pregnant with Dougal’s child, he accuses her of being a witch and is sentenced to be burnt to death. And we assumed this was her end!
However and according to the books, the child will be born and Dougal took her to France for a new life. Will she meet with Claire and Jamie (Sam Heughan) in season 2? Probably, because they are in Paris trying to prevent the Jacobite uprising of 1745 and the following and tragic Battle of Culloden.
What kind of relation will they have now? Remember that Geillis can be very charming, but will not hesitate to use any one or any means, including murder, to further the Stuart cause. Will she continue been Claire’s friend? Will they become enemies? Anyway, Lotte Verbeek is a great actress and we missed her on the show.
Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!
