Stories of Flight: Jazz, Jewelry and Storytelling at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA. Friday, October 9, 2015, 6:30 – 11:00 pm.

Have you ever felt like taking flight at a dreadful party or remembered the flight to a destination you’ll never forget? Join us next Friday evening for an exciting evening of stories, craft, and music. For the very first time, Fuller Craft Museum will present a moth-style storytelling competition called the StorySlam. Andrea Lovett co-founder of massmouth will be our host. The theme for the evening’s stories will be “Flight” a reference to the Grethe Wittrock: Nordic Current exhibition. Following the StorySlam, renowned jazz saxophonist and vocalist Stan Strickland tells his own musical stories with his jazz quartet. We will also be in the company of artist Cynthia Germain, who will tell us the process and the meaning behind her leather works and tribal jewelry. Throughout the evening we will have a cash bar with an English Ploughman’s Plate to sup on, also Gallery Games and prizes. Our guest judges for the evening will be: Shennen Bersani, children’s book author and illustrator; Adelene Ellenberg, author and Fuller Craft Museum board member; Arne Danielson, President of Brockton Arts. Join us for a fun evening of stories, music, craft.

Bring your story to tell. Or perhaps you’d prefer to just sit back and listen to some great stories and get a chance to vote for your favorite story along with the judges. A StorySlam is a live storytelling competition in the vein of poetry slams organized by The Moth and/or Massmouth, nonprofits literary society from New York and Massachusetts, since 2001. Storytellers (slammers) have 5 minutes each to tell a well-crafted story, based on their true life experience and a theme chosen for the event. Prizes are awarded. The theme for the evening will be “Flight” a reference to the Grethe Wittrock: Nordic Current exhibition. Our guest judges for the evening will be: Shennen Bersani, children’s book author and illustrator; Adelene Ellenberg, author and Fuller Craft Museum board member; Arne Danielson, President of Brockton Arts. Cynthia Germain: Tribal Jewelry and Leather Works Trunk Show and Talk. Cynthia Germain has been proudly committed to hand-crafting beautiful garments and leather goods. Her devotion to using real leather and hand stitching gives each piece a unique, artisanal touch. The process begins with a labor of love: preparing the leather. Finally, the striking details characteristic of Saint Germain are added: cowrie shells, leather fringe, ostrich eggs, and beading—each hand-sewn accent brings the piece to life.
