Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe represent Romanticism and Outlander is romantic! Everybody likes the love scenes between Scottish Warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his pretty wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe). Their passion is contagious. Their love was one of the most important points in Outlander season 1. But how about Outlander season 2? Can we expect so many love scenes? I don’t think so.
In my opinion, Outlander season 2 is going to be quite different. Jamie and Claire are in France now. In the sophisticated Court of Louis XV in Paris and Versailles. Nothing wrong with this luxurious Court. Love could be in the air too. However, Jamie is overcoming his cruel torture by Black Jack and Claire is pregnant now. Two negative facts for lovers, especially the first one. Can he overcome his trauma?
Furthermore, they are in Paris trying to prevent the battle of Culloden. It was the final confrontation of the Jacobite rising of 1745 and part of a religious civil war in Britain. Claire knows the future and in that battle, the Highlands lost their culture and reprisals were brutal. Between 1,500 and 2,000 Jacobites were killed or wounded in the brief battle, and the “Butcher” punished mercilessly survivors.
Then, I think that Outlander season 2 is going to have many political intrigues and palace scenes. Romanticism is going to be less important, and the dialogues between Jamie and Claire will be darker. She is a clever woman and can support her husband, but she must have patience. Also, Jamie is familiar with French culture, but Claire will adapt differently, given that she is still adjusting to the roles placed on women in that era.
