Glens Falls Events. Local Music Lovers Help The Hyde Develop a Community Exhibit. Can You Dig It? The exhibition is on view now through October 11, 2015, in the Rotunda Gallery. In April, The Hyde Collection issued a challenge to the regional community. The Museum requested that they loan their favorite album covers for consideration in the community exhibition, Can You Dig It? Music aficionados from upstate New York and western Massachusetts met that challenge enthusiastically, dropping off over 800 album covers to The Hyde. The resulting exhibition coincides with the Museum’s major summer exhibition, The Late Drawings of Andy Warhol: 1973-1987.
“We are thrilled with the response we’ve received from the community,” said The Hyde’s director, Erin Coe. “Music, much like visual art, is a means of expression and Can You Dig It? is a celebration of the artistic convergence of music and art. We’re very thankful to the music lovers in our community for loaning us their album covers.”
Of the over 800 album covers received, the Museum’s curatorial and education staff selected 84 covers dating from 1965 to 1989 that are featured in the exhibition. Five of the cover illustrations on display at The Hyde were created by Andy Warhol. Warhol created album covers for the Velvet Underground, the Rolling Stones, and John Lennon, among others. The lenders of the selected album covers are listed on the Rotunda Gallery wall at The Hyde. If visitors want to rock out to some of the iconic songs from many of these albums, The Hyde is providing MP3 players that are available at the admission desk.
