Leading fuel distributor Rix Petroleum is on the hunt for Yorkshire and Humber’s top young farmer.
The East Yorkshire company is encouraging young farmers from across the region to make a short video demonstrating how they are making a difference to their place of work.
The person who submits the best video will win £500 and earn the coveted title of Rix Young Farmer of the Year Yorkshire and Humber.
The competition is being officially launched at Driffield Agricultural Show on Wednesday, July 22nd, but is open to young farmers from anywhere across the region.
Entrants are asked to make and submit a video of no longer than 60 seconds to the company before the end of August showing how they make a difference in their working environment.
The videos can be about anything including environmental issues, wildlife conservation, farm diversification projects or improving the financial efficiency of the business.
They will be hosted on Rix Petroleum’s Facebook page and the public will vote for the top three, which will go forward to an expert panel of judges who will make the final decision.
The winner will be announced at the end of September.
James Brook, marketing manager at Rix Petroleum, said that as the next generation of farmers come up the ranks, they are more at home with technology than ever before and the Rix Young Farmer of the Year competition reflected that.
Mr Brook said: “Rix has been serving the farming community in East Yorkshire for many generations and we have always been amazed by the enthusiasm and entrepreneurship that each new generation brings. We want to celebrate those achievements and that’s why we have launched our Young Farmer of the Year.
“We are not looking for high-quality produced videos, using a camera phone is fine, it is how you answer the question that will count.
“Farming is one the most diverse industries to work in, and one of the most vital. We’ll let you decide what is important to you and your farm and how you want to tell us.”
Video submission period will being at 00.01am on Wednesday, July 22nd and will close at 11.59pm on August 31.
Voting via Rix Petroleum’s Facebook site will commence from 00.01am on September 4th and will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, September 20th, with the winner announced shortly afterwards.
The winner will receive £500 with second place entry receiving £250 and third, £100.
