American actress Kim Dickens will star as Madison Clark, a high school guidance counselor and single mother, in Fear the Walking Dead. Fear the Walking Dead is a companion series to the horror drama television show The Walking Dead. It’s scheduled to premiere on AMC on August 23, 2015. Are you excited? For sure!

Today, nine things you should know about its female protagonist:

Dickens was born on June 18, 1965, in Huntsville, Alabama.

“I like country music. I’m not going to lie. I’m from the South, and I grew up on it. My dad was a country singer-songwriter, so it’s in my blood, and I love it.” Kim Dickens.

She has a BA degree in communication and is graduated at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

She has appeared in independent movies like Palookaville, Voice from the Grave, Truth or Consequences, N.M., Heart Full of Rain, Zero Effect with Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller and Ryan O’Neal, and Great Expectations.

Also, she has starred in commercial movies, including Mercury Rising, Committed, Hollow Man, The Gift, House of Sand and Fog, Thank You for Smoking, The Blind Side and Gone Girl.

She set to appear in upcoming Tim Burton’s movie Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

On TV series, she is best known for her roles in the HBO dramas Deadwood (2004–06) and Treme (2010–13).

“I have to say, not a day goes by when I don’t think fondly about ‘Deadwood’ and miss things about it.” Kim Dickens.

She is also active in Open Stage Theatre.

Set in Los Angeles, Fear the Walking Dead follows the life of a female guidance counselor (Kim Dickens), and her two children–a son and a daughter–in the opening stages of the zombie apocalypse while they try to stop the collapse of civilization.

The series will debut internationally on AMC Globalwithin 24 hours of the U.S. premiere.
