Snooping on Internet I read that some people is surprised by the style of actor Aidan Turner in Poldark (2015 TV show) and they compare it with Robin Ellis’ style in Poldark (1975 TV show). Some followers and even some journalists are asking if Poldark really needed to go shirtless. Because actor Robin Ellis, the original Poldark star, only took his shirt off once in the old BBC drama.
In my opinion, 20 years have passed and nobody is shocked by a little realism now. Captain Ross Poldark is a romantic hero, but a hard-worker too. Then, he sweats and gets dirty in the mine working closely with his employees. A way to reflect this, it’s filming him shirtless in the fields. Don’t you think so?
What’s the problem with seeing him bathing naked in a lake? The moment is important, because we understand that he is a strong man, very different to his cousin Francis (Kyle Soller) or George Warleggan (Jack Farthing). Ross Poldark does not despise working men, and even of noble birth, he wants to be with them.
A 2015 British period drama is different to a 1975 TV show, and the hero can show his body if the scene requires it. What do you think? Tell us your opinion now!
Did you know that Robin Ellis appears in Poldark (2015 TV show) playing the role as Reverend Halse?
**Poldark TV shows are based on the historical novels by author Winston Graham. The series comprises 12 books. The first seven are set in the 18th century, finishing on Christmas 1799. The remaining five are set in the early years of the 19th century and the protagonists are the descendants of the main characters of the previous novels.
What do you expect from Poldark season 2?
