Aidan Turner portrays the titular character Ross Poldark in the 2015 revival of the BBC series Poldark.
Poldark is a series of historical novels by Winston Graham. The BBC has adapted them to TV twice. Firstly in 1975, and a new version starring Aidan Turner which began in 2015. On 8 April 2015, the BBC announced that a second series had been commissioned.
Ross Poldark is a British Army officer, who returns to his home in Cornwall from the American Revolutionary War. There, he finds his family and fortune destroyed, and his fiancée Elizabeth Chynoweth (actress Heida Reed) about to marry his cousin Francis Poldark (Kyle Soller.)
Elizabeth later becomes a widow and marries George Warleggan (Jack Farthing), Ross’s enemy.
Poldark was first broadcast on BBC One on 8 March 2015. The eight-part series, based on the first two Poldark novels by Winston Graham, was adapted by Debbie Horsfield and directed by Edward Bazalgette and Will McGregor.
Aidan Turner (Dublin, 1983) is an Irish actor. He is also known for his roles as Kíli in the three-part fantasy film The Hobbitand John Mitchell in the supernatural drama series Being Human.
Turner graduated from The Gaiety School of Acting in 2004. He appeared in several theatre plays and his television acting career began in 2007 with a guest appearance on The Tudors.
In 2007, it began his film career with two short films, The Sound of People and Matterhorn.
In 2013, he played werewolf Luke Garroway in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Turner briefly worked as an electrician.
