STARZ announced that French actress Claire Sermonne will be playing Louise de Rohan in Outlander Season 2. Who is she?
In author Diana Gabaldon’s original books, Louise de Rohan was a French woman who becomes good friend with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) while she and her husband, the Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) are in France.
In Paris, Jamie Fraser is going to need all of Claire’s support as he tries to forget his torture and Black Jack as well as to prevent the second Jacobite rising.
Hard times for Claire but she will find support in Louis de Rohan, a frivolous woman (as everybody in the Court of Louis XV) but able to understand the ‘peculiar’ worries of Claire, a woman from the future.
Who was the real Louise de Rohan? Louise de Rohan (11 August 1704 – 20 August 1780) was a French noblewoman and Princess of Guéméné by marriage. Her uncle was the Bishop of Strasbourg, alleged son of Louis XIV. Then, an important person in Versailles and Fontainebleau, who can open many doors for her friends?
Furthermore and speaking about history, Louise’s daughter, Charlotte Louise, married the Prince of Masserano, who was the Spanish ambassador in London. An important contact if we think that Jamie needs that London pardon him.
Also joining the cast in season two is Marc Duret as Joseph Duverney, who is Louis XV’s minister of finance.
