It’s a fact. Women already represent nearly *6% of tradespeople in the UK and that number looks set to grow. Commercial vehicle leasing firm Vanarama is keen to recognise the hard work and dedication shown by our national tradeswomen. This is why it has chosen to sponsor the Best Tradeswoman category in this year’s Best Business Woman Awards 2015. The award is open to any women working in a trade, from plumbers to gardeners, electricians to builders, anywhere in the UK. All that is asked of the entrant is to demonstrate why they and their customers think their business is the best.

As the UK’s leading provider of commercial vehicles, Vanarama works with tradespeople on a daily basis. With 50% of its management team female, it certainly leads by example in supporting diversity in business. Andy Alderson, managing director of Vanarama explains why the company jumped at the chance of sponsoring the Best Tradeswoman Award 2015:

“It’s fantastic to see the growth of women in trades. It’s clear that women now represent a significant, if still small, proportion of the trades sector and with the growing UK economy, this trend for female tradespeople looks set to continue. We thought it was about time the nation recognised the vital and increasing role women are making in trades today. By sponsoring this award we can showcase some of the best tradeswomen in the country, helping them to boost their business potential too.”

Everyone recognises that running a business can feel like a 24 hour occupation so awards entries might not be high on the priority list. But Vanarama is asking tradeswomen to focus on the rewards that winning, or even just being shortlisted for this award will have on their growing business.

“As award winners ourselves, we understand the real benefits that come with being singled out as the best in your industry”, says Vanarama’s Managing Director Andy Alderson, “Being selected over your competitors provides valuable third party endorsement and gives you a real edge when competing for customers.”

Vanarama is keen for the nation’s tradeswomen to benefit from being an ‘award winning tradeswoman’ which is why it is encouraging them to enter. Full details of how to enter the Best Tradeswoman Award 2015 can be found at The entry deadline is 22nd September 2015 and winners will be announced on 15th October 2015.

*Women represent 5.7% of trade workers according to a survey carried out by Ironmongery Direct in 2014
