Roland Joffé is an English-French film director known for his Oscar nominated films The Killing Fields and The Mission. Over the years, he gained a reputation for hard-hitting political stories with the series Bill Brand and truthful dramas for Play for Today.
The series stars Bill Paxton as Sam Houston, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Deaf Smith, Brendan Fraser, Olivier Martinez as General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Emily D. West.
Samuel “Sam” Houston (March 2, 1793 – July 26, 1863) was an American politician known for his important role in bringing Texas into the United States as a constituent state. His victory at the Battle of San Jacinto secured the independence of Texas from Mexico.
Filming started around June 2014 in Durango, Mexico. The series is from A+E Studios and ITV Studios America, produced by Thinkfactory Media with Leslie Greif as executive producer.
