Prometheus 2. The Real Myth Is Thrilling!

Prometheus by Ridley Scott

Prometheus and Prometheus 2 by Ridley Scott have a good title. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) wants to know her creators. Will be they similar to Zeus? Will be she punished as Prometheus? Read about the real myth.

In Greek Mythology, Prometheus was people’s benefactor and Titan protector of human civilization. In Athens, he was honored for stealing fire from the gods what means their knowledge. Then, he was punished by Zeus.

Prometheus had no fear of the gods, and he ridiculed Zeus and his little insight. Once, Prometheus sacrificed an oxen and cut it into two parts. The first contained the meat, the second only bones with fat. Zeus smelled the delicious fat and chose the second half to eat. Only bones! How Prometheus laughed! How people celebrate the joke!

Outraged by this deception, Zeus deprived of fire to mankind. Prometheus decided to steal it, so he climbed Mount Olympus, stole fire from the chariot of Helios and gave it to people again.

Prometheus 2. The Real Myth Is Thrilling!

Prometheus by Ridley Scott

Zeus took vengeance on Prometheus and had him taken to the Caucasus, where he was chained by Hephaestus with the help of Cratos and Bia. Zeus sent an eagle (daughter of the monsters Typhon and Echidna) to eat the liver of Prometheus. Being immortal, his liver grew back every night, and the eagle returned to eat every day. This punishment was to last forever!

But Heracles (Zeus’ son) went through the place on the way to the garden of the Hesperides and freed him shooting an arrow at the eagle. Prometheus was released, although he must carry with him a ring attached to a piece of the rock to which he was chained.

Moral: you never want to know the secrets of the gods.
