Outlander Starz has many strengths. The series is based on the historical time travel Outlander series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, actor Sam Heughan is a perfect Jamie Fraser, the rest of the cast is also great, setting is top#1… But one of this strength is the music composed by Bear McCreary. Why Is The Title Song So Amazing? Today, nine reasons:
.- The title song is an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem Sing me a Song of a Lad that is Gone, set to the tune of the Scottish folk song “The Skye Boat Song.”
.- Robert Louis Stevenson was born at 8 Howard Place, Edinburgh, Scotland, on 13 November 1850. Then, he and Jamie Fraser share the same spirit.
.- Also, Stevenson now ranks among the 26 most translated authors in the world. Then, ‘Sing me a Song of a Lad that is Gone’ cannot be more than beautiful.
.- Composer Bear McCreary is synonymous of quality. Among other awards, he won an Emmy for his main title of Da Vinci’s Demons.
.- Bear McCreary has a long experience working on successful TV shows. He is best known for his work on the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series, for the TV series The Walking Dead and recently, for Black Sails.
.- “The Skye Boat Song” is a Scottish folk song, which can be played as a waltz, recalling the escape of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) from Uist to the Isle of Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Then, it has the same historical background as Outlander.
.- The music is accompanied by exquisite images of Celtic dancers around magic stones. They are the dreams of Claire. I love the opening!
.- Furthermore, Outlander music is quite different to the music of other series. This makes the difference!
.- Finally, everything related to Scotland is attractive.
