Charlie Hunnam As King Arthur. Nine Things You Should Know About The Hero Of Britain.

Charlie Hunnam will play as Arthur Pendragon in the upcoming movie ‘Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur’. What do you know about King Arthur? Today, nine things about this hero.

1.- King Arthur’s story is not real. His adventure are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention (the Annales Cambriae, the Historia Brittonum, and the writings of Gildas), and his historical existence is debated by modern historians.

2.- He lived in the late 5th and early 6th centuries and led the defense of Britain against Saxon invaders in the early 6th century as well as supernatural enemies.

3.- His life and adventures developed international interest largely through the popularity of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s fanciful 12th-century Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain).

4.- Geoffrey of Monmouth depicted Arthur as a king of Britain who established an empire over Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Gaul.

5.- Geoffrey also introduces Uther Pendragon (King Arthur’s father), the wizard Merlin, the handsome Guinevere, the sword Excalibur, Tintagel, his final battle against Mordred at Camlann, and final rest in Avalon.

6.- The sword Excalibur or Caliburn had magical powers and is associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain.

7.- The 12th-century French writer Chrétien de Troyes added Lancelot and the Holy Grail to the story.

8.- Arthurian literature thrived during the Middle Ages but waned in the centuries that followed until it experienced a major resurgence in the 19th century. Romantic times!

9.- In the 21st century, the legend lives on, not only in literature but also in adaptations for theatre, film, television, comics and other media. A good example is the upcoming movie ‘Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur’ starring Charlie Hunnam.

‘Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur’ starring Charlie Hunnam is scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release.
