Outlander. Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan

Outlander Starz. Is Geillis Duncan really dead or living in 1968 again? Spoiler alert!

Outlander is thrilling… and magic. Absolutely magic! In the last episode titled ‘The Devil’s Mark’, we discovered that Geillis Duncan (actress Lotte Verbeek) had experienced the same trip in the time that Claire Randall/Fraser (actress Caitriona Balfe). Thus, some minutes before dying, she implied that she belongs to 1968.

In fact, Claire could escape from being burned as a witch thanks to her. Geillis confessed to being an ally of Satan and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) could take advantage of the confusion and free Claire.

However, what did it happen with Geillis Duncan? Was she really burned? We didn’t see her end. Thus, I presume that she is still alive! Firstly, because it would be disappointing to finish so rashly with such an important character and secondly and more important, because she cannot died in 1743 when she must be alive in 1968, her time.

I love the character played by Lotte Verbeek. Geillis Duncan is funny and mysterious, and a perfect alter ego for Claire. Then, I think we can see her again, maybe in the episode titled ‘The Search’ on May 9, 2015.

What do you think? Can a person from 1968 die in 1743? Wouldn’t the future change? Tell us your opinion now!

** Outlander is a British-American television drama series based on the historical time travel Outlander series of novels by Diana Gabaldon. On August 15, 2014, Starz renewed the series for a second season of at least 13 episodes, which will be based on Dragonfly in Amber, the second book in Gabaldon’s series.

It does get a bit murky as to whether she’s alive now, and therefore in 1968. If she came back from 1968 and died in this time, then what happens? I’m pretty sure her child could live, furthering the legacy through time and she could still die.

In my opinion, I believe she could die and her baby could live. It’s that whole travel in time cycle that never ends. Assuming she is 33 “hypothetically speaking” which would mean she was born in 1935, simply disappeared in 1968 but dies in 1743. So her child is born 1743 lives and continues to live in the 1700’s making Geillis her own Great Great Grandmother to herself when she is finally born in 1935. Just like that movie “Predestination”.

That’s not how Outlander time travel works. To find out what happens to Geillis, and to understand the Outlander/Gabaldon theory of time travel, I suggest reading the series!
