Networking Vendor DrayTek are warning about the potential dangers of smartphone apps being provided by governments and, depending on who your government is, why you might want to think twice before switching to the convenience of government apps.

In his latest Blog, DrayTek’s Michael Spalter has written about the potential upsides, but perhaps more importantly the downsides of allowing governments to provide apps for our smartphones. Such apps might provide ID cards and driving licences instead of using physical cards, but then also provide the provider with access to your phone.

This introduces all sorts of possible privacy and monitoring concerns which, in the wrong hands, could be abused.
