India Zegan. Museum of Fathers. Exhibition: 16-25 April, 2015. Opening: Wednesday 15 April 6-8pm. Location: 49 Shepherd St Marrickville. Exhibiting hours: Thursday to Saturday,1-6pm
India Zegan’s Museum of Fathers project began in 2011. To date, 57 objects, drawings and prints have been produced and catalogued for the collection. For this exhibition, Zegan has selected some key objects from her Museum of Fathers. This exhibition also marks the public unveiling of one of the key artefacts, Museum of Fathers # 53 (2013-2015), alongside other new work.
Zegan’s tongue-in-cheek title, Museum of Fathers, examines and inverts narratives to reflect the complexities of family structures, lineage, gender and identity. Zegan’s work with archives and public collections in Federal, state and tertiary institutions, informs her practice.
India Zegan is a Sydney based artist whose practice spans automatic drawing, installation, sculpture, performance and printing. Zegan has a MA (Art Administration), COFA, UNSW; BVA(Hons), SCA. She has also undertaken residencies at the Arthur Boyd Bundanon Trust and the NSW Ministry for the Arts Studios at the Gunnery. She has participated in over 23 group exhibitions since starting her MOF in 2011. This is her second solo show at Factory 49.
