London Exhibitions. Artists Marthine Tayou and Leon Golub At Serpentine Galleries. Spring exhibitions: 4 March – 17 May 2015.
PASCALE MARTHINE TAYOU: BOOMERANG AT SERPENTINE SACKLER GALLERY.
This first solo show in London by Cameroon-born, Belgium-based artist Pascale Marthine Tayou includes new work made especially for the Serpentine as well as a range of works that serve as powerful expressions of individual and national identity in an age of inescapable global consumption. Tayou is renowned for combining found and discarded objects and materials, often sourced locally, with a skilled and playful sense of craftsmanship.
LEON GOLUB: BITE YOUR TONGUE AT SERPENTINE GALLERY.
The survey exhibition of the American figurative painter Leon Golub highlights key aspects of the artist’s oeuvre from the 1950s until his death in 2004. Golub’s works are often profoundly psychological and emotive. Painted on a huge scale – the largest in the show is three metres high by eight metres wide – they return again and again to themes of oppression, violence and the misuse of power.
