The 2015 UK StreetVelodrome Series race calendar is launching at the UK’s largest bike show, the London Bike Show, held at London Excel 12th to 15th February 2015.
StreetVelodrome will be a key attraction at the show thanks to a special guest ‘takeover’ by the Hoy Future Stars and Sir Chris Hoy MBE, Britain’s most successful Olympian.
The StreetVelodrome Series offers high energy accessible cycle sport using innovative pop-up banked corners. Hundreds of show visitors will be trying the banking for themselves with free taster sessions and pro rider coaching. Plus there will be some fun competitions with great prizes on offer.
However the biggest name at the London event will be Sir Chris Hoy MBE. He will be on hand to meet a group of budding young riders, all under 15 years old and hoping to win a place in the Hoy Future Stars development team. The youth team formed as part of the Revolution, an elite level track racing series and Hoy Bikes.
These young track cycling hopefuls will get to meet Sir Chris in person before they face the challenge of the StreetVelodrome and our special exhibition knockout competition.

The 2015 UK StreetVelodrome Series will start on 30th May in the Renfrewshire town of Paisley. The competition will then tour across the UK, visiting six venues, before eventually reaching central London for the thrilling series finale, known as the SuperFinal.
The tour aims to bring the excitement and drama of close action track cycling to the people using an innovative pop up track complete with banked corners.
All the events in the UK Series are filmed for the StreetVelodrome television series shown on UK TV and in over 180 countries worldwide.
The Series showcases the positive impact sport can have on individuals and communities by providing opportunities in town and city centres for local amateurs to participate alongside Olympic and elite level riders. There are no entry fees and all competitors use identically prepared race bikes as provided by StreetVelodrome.
Spectators will be able to enjoy the action for free too whilst watching the top riders compete at close quarters in high energy race action.
During the racing both pro and amateur riders compete to avoid elimination in thrilling head to head pursuit races, each taking less than a minute. The top riders on the day then battle for the gold, silver and bronze medals on offer.
The racing is fast and furious with crashes and photo finishes often deciding the final outcome. Both male and female categories have equal status on the day. So spectators will enjoy fantastic race entertainment which ever rider or team they choose to support.
The teams entering the Series are mixed gender and made up of pro riders plus the locally qualifying amateurs. Each team will be battling to top the Olympic style medal table and claim the overall Series title at the SuperFinals on the evening of 13th August. Adding to the excitement on SuperFinals night will be the very best of the amateurs selected from the regional rounds to compete for the best amateur rider title.
StreetVelodrome Series Director Carl Thompson comments;
“We are extremely honoured to have Sir Chris Hoy and the Hoy Future Stars join us at the London Bike Show event. As for this year’s Series calendar we have some exciting new venues in Lowestoft and Worthing adding to those we enjoyed last year. We’re looking forward to bringing the thrill and entertainment of live track cycling to more and more people as the popularity of StreetVelodrome continues to grow, and our event partners are key to that success.”
Phil Aves on behalf of Lowestoft Vision and Lowestoft Rising adds;
“We are thrilled to be hosting a round of the StreetVelodrome Series here in Lowestoft as part of our summer festival weekend. The whole four day event is about being active and trying new activities, which will make a positive contribution to Suffolk’s ambition to become the most active county in England. To have the StreetVelodrome in our main shopping area in the centre of Town as our show case event will be a real WOW for us.”
Executive Member for Regeneration at Worthing Borough Council Bryan Turner said;
“I am delighted that Worthing will have another exciting, innovative and free event for everyone
to get behind this summer, with the added benefit of global television coverage for the town.”
