Cape Town exhibitions. Artists Odili Donald Odita and Sabelo Mlangeni at Stevenson Gallery. From 5 March to 11 April 2015.
Odili Donald Odita, (born in Nigeria and now living in the United States) will present new paintings investigating the condition of being between here and there, Africa and the Western world, and the idea of a Third World and a mainstream First World, which will be hung alongside his preparatory templates and sketches, to offer an insight into his thought processes, and the narrative under-pinning of his paintings.
Sabelo Mlangeni will present 2 photographic studies, My Storie, which focuses on one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburb Bertrams, premiered at the Liverpool Biennale in 2012 and has not been shown in South Africa before, and No Problem, photographed in Alexandra township between 2011 and 2013, whilst the artist was resident there. Both these studies of Johannesburg, showing 2 very different parts of the city, and when seen together, construct a revealing relationship and exchange with each other.
Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!
