London auctions. Chiswick Auctions to launch specialist Asian Art sales.
These sales follow the launch of the Asian Art specialist department which will be led by Lazarus Halstead, who has extensive knowledge and experience of ceramics, jades, bronzes and paintings.
Lazarus has a strong academic background having studied Chinese art at Oxford University and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. He has a track record of making important discoveries including two 20th century ink paintings by Xu Beihong and Qi Baishi which together sold in 2014 for more than £850,000.
Chiswick Auctions has had many successes with Asian art reflecting the resurgence of interest in the Orient. Important pieces have passed through the auction room doors including; a Ming bronze Bodhisattva which recently sold for £116,000 including buyer’s premium and a 19th century Chinese blue-and-white bottle vase, bearing Qianlong seal mark which sold for £93,000 including buyer’s premium.
The new department will host four specialist sales a year to help satisfy the growing appetite for Asian art in London and internationally.
