Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder and Roy Lichtenstein in Palm Beach, Florida.
From 15th to 25th January 2015 SI2, the gallery arm of Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Department, will explore the legacy of the flower through Contemporary Art with Wall Flowers, Sotheby’s first exhibition in Palm Beach, Florida. Spanning seven decades, the pieces range from works by Contemporary masters such as Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder and Roy Lichtenstein, to some of today’s most exciting names including Jonas Wood, Jennifer Steinkamp and Robert Longo. The show, which is open to the public, will take place at Gavlak Gallery, 249B Worth Avenue, Palm Beach, FL 33480, 10am – 5pm.
Alexander Rotter, Co-Head of Sotheby’s Worldwide Contemporary Art Department, commented: “We are thrilled to be in Palm Beach with this innovative exhibition. The area has a rich history of promoting the arts with major public and private collections, so we are excited to have the opportunity to engage with the local art community. Flowers have fascinated artists for centuries, not least those of the past 50 years who we will be showcasing at Gavlak Gallery. With works ranging from a Warhol still life, bold pop art by Roy Lichtenstein, a Calder standing mobile and even a pile of ceramic sunflower seeds by Ai WeiWei, the show is a celebration of the flower in Contemporary Art.”
