Harbin in China rocks! The largest ice festival in the world is coming! Incredible, amazing, no words!
Harbin is one of the biggest cities in North China, but also one of the coldest with temperatures getting as low as -35. However, Harbin is one of the most touristic places in Asia. Why? Because of is ice art.
Running from the 5th of January until late February every year its festival attracts thousands of visitors, all of them eager to see the wonderful works of ice art that are produced.
Two main areas. There is Sun Island, an interactive area that features some incredible ice sculptures. And there is ice and snow world. It opens at night and features full-scale buildings that are illuminated to give the impression of an ice city. Superb!
There are also other activities, even for kids. Lantern lit park walks, alpine skiing and even winter swimming!
It’s a unique celebration with with over 15,000 professionals and volunteers excavating about 4 million cubic feet of ice from Songhua River.
