This season, 35 years after the first sale in the category, Sotheby’s will present three Latin American Art auctions with a combined low estimate of over $40 million:
A Vision Of Grandeur: Masterworks From The Collection Of Lorenzo H. Zambrano, 24th November 6pm: a single-owner Evening Sale of the most important collection of Latin American Art ever to appear at auction, led by outstanding works by many of the most famous names in 20th Century Mexican art including Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, Leonora Carrington and the Diego Rivera masterpiece Río Juchitán – the first ever mural by the artist to appear at auction (est. in excess of $6 million).
Mexico Contemporary, 25th November, 7pm: a ground-breaking auction dedicated to Contemporary Art from Mexico including both established figures and the younger, raiding-rising stars at the forefront of the Contemporary Art world with artists such as Gabriel Orozco, Francis Alÿs, Eduardo Terrazas, and Stefan Bruggemann.
Latin American Art Modern and Contemporary, 25th November 7.30pm and 26th November 10am: led by Fernando Botero’s La casa de las gemelas Arias, one of the most significant works by the artist to appear at auction in over a decade (est. $2/3 million) as well as exceptional works by Rufino Tamayo and Brazilian artists Maria Martins, Mira Schendel, Sergio Camargo, Cildo Meireles and works by Venezuelan masters Armando Reverón, Gego, and Jesús Rafael Soto.
