Toronto exhibitions. Valley of a Thousand Châteaux by Steven Nederveen at Bau-Xi Gallery. December 6-20, 2014. Opening Reception: Saturday December 6th, 2-4pm.
Steven Nederveen’s artwork deals with the passage of time, and ideas of memory, a theme stemming from his own practice of meditation. He explores the sense of the sacred that he feels in natural settings, and finds inspiration to use his artwork as a means of drawing connections between the natural environment and spirituality. He continues to travel extensively, photographing and recording new places, which then become re-imagined in his mixed-media pieces. This newest collection of work is inspired by his recent travels in the Loire Valley, France. Through a combination of digital and painterly processes, Nederveen aims to blur the lines between photography and painting.
Nederveen studied fine art at Medicine Hat College and went on to receive a Bachelor of Design from the University of Alberta in 1995. His studio is currently based out of Toronto. Nederveen’s work is featured internationally in galleries, art fairs, magazines, and many private collections.
