Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James is an interesting title. The author told that she chose the surname of Grey because nothing is black or white, it depends on your point of view. Thus, she is not is not judging Christian Grey behavior but telling a life full of ‘shades.’
In fact, the shadows are the different facets of the life of Grey. Remember that Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey have a conversation, where he tells her a little about what happened to him in his childhood. He has a tormented soul, he is a man with many shades… 50! Hence the title.
But why did E.L. James choose the number 50? What is the meaning of 50? Does 50 mean infinite? We’ll see.
In numerology 50 has a magical power because it reinforces the number 5. Same happens to 14, 23 or 32 (5 + 0 = 5; 1 + 4 = 5; 2 + 3 = 5; and 3 + 2 = 5). Then, 50 is a lucky number, if the person (Christian Grey?) is representing his own views and opinions. If not, his plans are likely to be destroyed by the stubbornness and stupidity of others (Anastasia Steel?) Anyway, 50 is a favorable number if it appears in connection with future events.
And how about 5, the number that 50 reinforces? The number 5 is the bird, the freest of all animals. It is also known as the traveler, as a bird is very restless and loves to meet many different places and people. In fact, it believes that travel and adventure is the way of knowledge. It’s the most fun of all being, but sometimes it behaves like a liar and swindler… Are we speaking about seductive rich young Christian Grey?
