Hell on Wheels season 4 episode 1 is set mainly in two difference places. The Mormon Fort and Cheyenne.
Life in Cheyenne is now more thrilling than ever. Mr. Durant is ruined once again. The train could not cross the river and we were shocked with the fantastic image of iron and wheels floating in ice as the steam goes out. What a moment!
Of course, Mr. Durant is not a man who is resigned to losing (by the way, what an actor, Colm Meaney!) and… well, this season we will be watching his confrontation with the Mayor Mickey McGinnes (actor Phil Burke), and with his old partner Maggie Palmer (actress Chelah Horsdal), who has already expelled him from her hotel, including suitcases. A scorned woman is always exciting for the plot.
Then, Hell on Wheels keeps on rocking!
However, how about the Mormon Fort? Cullen Bohannon is precisely there and life is really gray. The Swede (actor Christopher Heyerdahl) is (as always) a psycho, but still behaves like a bored Bishop, and Bohannon is a good husband and father now. I do not like this new personality of Bohannon… He even prays! The appeal of Bohannon is his anti-heroism. He is a former Southern gentleman transformed into a killer and outlaw because of the horrors of war. It’s absolutely necessary that Cullen Bohannon returns to Hell on Wheels! Don’t you think so?
And how about Elam Ferguson (Common)? Apparently, he’s dead and forgotten. Not a fitting end for Elam Ferguson, Bohannon friend and alter-ego. It seems that Psalms will perform a similar role to Elam in the future.
The only person who remember Elam Ferguson is Eva (Robin McLeavy), truly weakened now. In my opinion, Eva is another important character and we need to see that strong woman again.
