Dinosaurs in New York. Shumpei Yamaki, the Passionate Dinosaur Artist, at Sara Japanese Gallery. Summer 2014 Mini Exhibition: ” Wood Fired Dinosaurs.” August 11th Mon. – 14th Thu.
Sara Japanese Pottery will present the fifth in a series of events to celebrate our 25th years anniversary. This will be a mini exhibition of wood fired dinosaurs by Shumpei Yamaki.
Shumpei was only in kindergarten when he started making dinosaurs. The ones he made were the ones he wanted to play with.
In college, he studied archeology, and one day he asked his professor when they would start to study dinosaurs. He was astonished when he was told, dinosaurs are not studied in the field of archeology, you would have to pursue geology or biology. This was quite a significant misunderstanding.
He became a ceramicist and made his own wood-fired kiln. But again his deep passion for creating dinosaurs began to well up to the surface from inside of his soul. T-rex, triceratops, stegosaurus… Their natural glaze skin, realism, and playfulness. His profuse fondness for dinosaurs pushed him to make them!
The passionate dinosaur artist.
