An oversized digital contact print by Bert Stern comprising 12 images of screen icon Marilyn Monroe, taken at her last official photo shoot, will be auctioned on Friday 6th June 2014 in a sale of Photographs & Photobooks at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions’ saleroom in London’s Mayfair.
The contact print, from Stern’s The Last Sitting, features iconic and unseen shots of Marilyn Monroe, taken in 1962, just a few weeks before her untimely death.
When Stern sent her the original sheets, Marilyn crossed out in felt tip the shots she didn’t feel portrayed the ‘real’ her, you can clearly see the red crossings-out on the images, a fascinating insight into how she saw herself.
At an impressive 140cm x 150xm in size, the striking, signed, limited edition print, currently has pride of place on display at Bloomsbury Auctions’ saleroom in London’s Mayfair and is estimated to achieve £7,000-9,000. [Lot 172]
