A few days ago it was the wedding anniversary of Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, former journalist and current Princess of Asturias, with Prince Felipe of Spain. What have been the highlights of this lovely couple?
Of course, the day that the Spanish Royal Household announced Letizia engagement to the Prince Felipe of Asturias, heir to the throne of Spain (on November 1 2003). We still remember the gorgeous 16-baguette diamond engagement ring with a white gold trim and their knowing glances. They were happy!
The wedding took place on 22 May 2004 in Madrid Cathedral. A great moment because it had been nearly a century since the capital celebrated a royal wedding. In fact, present King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia married in Athens, as she is the daughter of the king of Greece.
Beautiful was also the shy hug that occurred in the balcony of the Royal Palace minutes after their wedding ceremony,
Of course, Princess Letizia has received different appointments and decorations by Spain and foreign states. However, I’d highlight the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III as dame on 21 May 2004 because it was the first.
The birth of the first child, Princess Leonor, on 31 October 2005 and the birth of Princess Sofia were other magic moments.
I would also point the announcement of her solo agenda in 2006 focus on social issues such as children rights, culture and education.
But not all have been good times. In ten years of marriage, they have also gone through difficult times, as it was the death of Erika Ortiz, Princess Letizia younger sister. Prince Felipe became her best support.
And of course the last one, when Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia visited the exhibition of El Greco in Toledo to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary some days ago.
