Australia art events. Eva Breuer Art Dealer will close its doors with a celebration party and an exhibition of Victor Rubin’s Timespace works. Saturday May 24 2014 with a celebration!
One of Australia’s top art galleries, Eva Breuer Art Dealer in Woollahra, will close its doors with a celebration party on Saturday (May 24, 2014), after 20 years of successful operation.
The collectors of the prestigious SlowBurn collection will make the tribute address to the founder of the gallery, the late Eva Breuer. The Slow Burn collection, an exceptional museum quality collection of works of Australian female artists, was put together by Eva Breuer and was exhibited in 2012 in honour of Eva Breuer after her death.
The closing celebration will also serve as an opening for a final one week exhibition of Victor Rubin’s Timespace works, to be opened by Malcolm and Lucy Turnbull, with Woollahra Mayor Toni Zeltzer in attendance. Victor has been part of the Eva Breuer stable of artists since the gallery opened and was a personal favourite of Eva.
The gallery, which finally closes its doors on May 31, 2014, was established by the late Eva Breuer, who was an icon of the Australian art world with her wide knowledge and judgement, infectious enthusiasm, energy and high standards of practice. Eva was loved and respected by everyone in the art world.
Nicky McWilliam, daughter of Eva Breuer, took over the management of the gallery four years ago after Eva’s passing, while continuing to run her own legal mediation practice.
Nicky McWilliam said “The gallery has been very successful due to my mother’s very hard work, expertise and knowledge. I was standing on very tall shoulders over the last four years as I carried on the way my mother ran the gallery and the tradition my mother established over many years.
“My mother established an enormously successful gallery with a huge following due to her amazing talent, drive and her exceptional vision. It will be sad to close our doors with a party on Saturday, but I am unable to devote the time required to operate the gallery along with my practice and legal research.
“Neither of my two siblings are in a position to continue to run the gallery and it feels right to be closing on the twenty year mark. It has been a pleasure to work with all of the very talented and accomplished artists who devote their career to the arts, as well as the many estates and consignors and of course the dedicated members of staff”, she concluded.
