Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions’ inaugural London sale of Fine Wine, Champagne, Port and Select Fine Spirits on Thursday 3rd April 2014 comprises a single owner collection of top Burgundy and red Bordeaux of the 1982 vintage. The sale is held in conjunction with Bid for Wine, as a forward looking joint venture between Dreweatts’ traditionally terrestrial activities and Bid for Wine’s trend-setting online-only business model.

Chris Hambleton, Wine Consultant for Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions and Consignments Director of auction partner Bid for Wine said: “We are thrilled to be bringing the already established Fine Wine sales to our London saleroom and look forward to cultivating the department in response to the growing London and International market.”

Richebourg Grand Cru 1996

From the cellar of a Kentish Doctor comes three bottles of Richebourg Grand Cru 1996 Domaine de la Romanee Counti, (DRC). This Burgundy estate produces what many consider to be the finest expressions of Pinot Noir. The three bottles are estimated at £2,000-2,500. [Lot 46]

Other fine bottles of DRC deriving from the same collection include an Echezeaux 1996, estimated at £400-500, [Lot 47] and a bottle of Grands Echezeaux 1983, estimated at £500-600. [Lot 48]

Representing Bordeaux’s exceptional 1982 vintage are two three bottle lots of Chateau Haut Brion 1982 estimated at £1,200-1,500 each [Lot 7374] and five bottles of Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 1982 Graves estimated at £2,500-3,000. [Lot 75]

Classed as a Premier Cru Classé (First-growth) Chateau Haut Brion is one of only five properties sharing this historic and coveted title. The Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is classed among the Grand Crus in the Graves classification of 1953. Together these lots offer the Bordeaux connoisseur a rare opportunity to compare two fine wines from this amazing year side-by-side.

Topping wines from the Rhône valley is a bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape, Chateau Rayas 1981, and the later 1983 vintage, offered together the two bottles are estimated at £600-800. [Lot 181]

The acclaimed German vineyard, Wehlener Sonnenuhr provides the highlights of the white wine section, with four bottles of JJ Prum’s Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 1995 estimated at £150-200, [Lot 173] and 12 bottles of the 2005 vintage estimated at £400-500. [Lot 178]

Wehlener Sonnenuhr, in Wehlen Germany, owes its name to the sundial which is nestled conspicuously among its vines. A local landmark, the sundial was built in 1842 by Wehlen born Jodocus Prum who generously contributed his fortune and time to the social and culture development of the area.

Elsewhere in the sale, Krug leads the opening section of Champagne with a magnum of Krug 1971, including original certificated from Krug, estimated at £1,500-2,000[Lot 6] and a bottle of Krug 1979 estimated at £350-450. [Lot 7]
