TV series. The Good Wife and other strong feminine characters

Top TV series! Some days ago, on March 13 2014, CBS renewed The Good Wife TV series for a sixth season. A great success!

Today, I’d like to understand the reasons of this tremendous success and in fact, if I think about my favorite TV series, lots of them are starring by tough actresses starring the roles as strong women.

The Good Wife starring Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, the wife of Peter, a discredited State’s Attorney. For him and for her children, Zach and Grace, she has to return to work as a litigator at the law firm Stern, Lockhart & Gardner, trying to manage home and professional life with the ongoing scandal surrounding her husband. She is smart, independent, and fiercely protective of her family… In the following seasons, she will have different affairs and personal crisis, but she is always tough and knows what she is going to say, choosing her words for maximum impact… Yes, incredible woman! Everybody is in love with her!

Do you remember Falcon Crest and Gioberti-Channing family in the Californian wine industry? What a TV series! But the Top#1 was Angela Channing (Jane Wyman), a powerful woman in the Tuscany Valley, and the tough tyrannical matriarch of Falcon Crest (always with a funny point, I’d say.)

Yes, I like tough woman. How about The X-Files? Gillian Anderson portrayed Dana Scully for the entire nine seasons of the series. Top character and top real actress since in 2000, she made The X-Files history by becoming the first female writer and director of an episode. I love her!

Recently, other tough feminine characters have caught my attention. How about Madeleine Stowe starring as Victoria Grayson in Revenge TV series? Superb, no doubt. And what to say about Glenn Close and Rose Byrne starring as Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons in Damages? Don’t forget Game of Thrones, where the only sweet character is Sansa Stark and in fact, in spite of Sophie Turner’s beauty is not my favorite character… I prefer her sister Arya, for example.

Yes, strong women are trend. That is good because we are speaking about a new model of woman, where they are brave and active without forgetting their familiar duties.

Enjoy your day, Yareah friends!

As the cricket season draws to a close, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) can report a surge in popularity for guests seeking a full day of luxury hospitality at Lord’s during a Test Match in 2016. In the Home of Cricket’s most iconic venues – the Captains’ Lounge and Marylebone Suite – hospitality packages which included a hearty breakfast, sumptuous four-course lunch and luxury afternoon tea, sold out quickly for the first three days of the England v Sri Lanka and England v Pakistan Investec Test Matches. Private Boxes with the best views of the action for up to 18 guests also sold out fast for the same days. MCC revealed a sharp increase in revenue for its 2016 Sri Lanka Test Match hospitality packages compared with 2014 when the team last played England at Lord’s. Revenues for hospitality were up by nearly 30% over the same period in 2014 whilst private box sale revenues were up by a healthy 60%. Nick Kenton, MCC Head of Sales, Meetings & Events and Hospitality, said: “2016 has been a fantastic year for enjoying a day of cricket whilst experiencing the very best food, drink and hospitality that Lord’s has to offer. “This year’s sales figures show that hospitality packages at Lord’s were in huge demand and continue to be a key part of the summer sporting calendar.” Lord’s also expects high demand for its new hospitality packages, to be released this autumn for 2017 matches. These include England v South Africa from 6th to 10th July and England v West Indies from 7th to 11th September. Packages for the England v Ireland Royal London One-Day International on 7th May 2017 are also expected to sell out in record time.
