Photography Competition 2014 Grand-prize winner announced National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition Winners
LONDON (Embargoed until 15 FEBRUARY 2014) — National Geographic Traveller (UK) has announced the winner of its third annual photography competition at the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show.
As a leader in breathtaking, you-are-there photography from across the world, National Geographic Traveller launched its photo competition last September in association with Quark Expeditions. UK photographers were asked to submit their entries in one of six categories: Action, City, Iconic, Modern, Natural, and People.
Jonathan Carvajal’s shot of The Colour Run in Colombia pipped all the other contenders to become the grand-prize winner. “Jonathan’s shot was a standout entry from the very beginning. To capture this split second, at such a close range, resulting in a clear and sharp shot, should be commended. It really sums up the crazy atmosphere the Colour Run can evoke.
We’re proud to have him as the winner of this year’s competition,” said National Geographic Traveller’s art editor, Chris Hudson. Not only has Carvajal been crowned the grand-prize winner, he has also won a once-in-lifetime trip to the Arctic, courtesy of Quark Expeditions.
The independent judging panel consisted of Carol Enquist, National Geographic’s photo editor; Paul Goldstein, a wildlife photographer & regular contributor to National Geographic Traveller (UK); and travel photographer Richard James Taylor. National Geographic Traveller’s art editor Chris Hudson devised the shortlist and made the final decision.
National Geographic Traveller’s editor, Pat Riddell, said: “We’d like to thank all those who entered and supported the third National Geographic Traveller photography competition. The standard has been beyond our expectations and we already can’t wait to see what next year’s contest has in store. Congratulations to Jonathan — a very worthy winner.”
