Dolls. Lydia, Your Georgian Girl

– let girls be girls: intelligent, feminine dolls bring British history to life –

– range expands with new doll, Lydia, Your Georgian Girl™ –

Lydia, Your Georgian Girl™ is the latest addition to the multi award-winning range of historical play dolls, books and accessories in the A Girl for All Time collection. Created by British boutique toy company Daughters of History Ltd., the age-appropriate, educational companion dolls have been designed to appeal to modern, young girls aged 7+.

The newest member of the fictitious Marchmont family to be immortalized as a doll is Lydia Peyton. Lydia, Your Georgian Girl™, wears a gorgeous yellow dress in the robe a l’angaise style, popular of that era. Her life is turned upside down in an accompanying book telling the story of how she must leave England and her beloved home, seat of the Marchmont family for over 200 years, to start a new life with her family in the American colonies. Additional historically-inspired costumes are now also available for Lydia, including a stunning blue party dress and meticulously detailed riding outfit.

Behind each doll lays a wealth of creative talent drawn from the world of British fashion and film. The inspirational costumes have been created by fashion designer Katya Wildman, Emmy-nominated Caroline Harris and, newest member of the team, Shari Fuller, a historical dolls’ clothing expert. The accompanying novels have been written by twice-BAFTA nominated screenwriter and director, Sandra Goldbacher.

Keen to reinforce that it is OK for girls to be girls, despite the current trend for gender neutrality in toys, Daughters of History’s founder, Frances Cain, explains, “While we don’t agree with pink/blue packaging or gender-segregated shopping aisles on the High Street, we do think it’s perfectly acceptable and, indeed, essential for children to play with toys designed to celebrate their gender. We feel there’s a lack of toys representing both femininity and intelligence: our dolls show that the two are not mutually exclusive.

“We’ve created the A Girl for All Time range to provide girls with a sophisticated, intellectually stimulating play companion who will take them on authentic adventures through British history, opening their minds and showing them how girls’ lives differed in eras gone by. A Girl for All Time also counters the age-compression trend, where younger girls increasingly reach for older toys – we’re embracing childhood imagination in traditional play by creating a toy that allows girls to understand and compare their own experience of childhood in a new and enriching way.”

With the addition of Lydia, there are now four dolls in the range: Matilda – Your Tudor Girl™; Amelia – Your Victorian Girl™; Clementine – Your 1940s Girl™ and Lydia – Your Georgian Girl™.

A Girl for All Time has already captured the attention of toy experts and doll specialists on both sides of the Pond. In April 2013 the brand won DOLLS Magazine coveted ‘Industry Choice – Award of Excellence’ and was nominated ‘Playdoll of the Year 2013’. The range sold out in only 10 days when it first appeared in Harrods’ luxury Toy Kingdom. Stateside, FAO Schwarz and New York boutiques now carry the entire range.

The dolls come dressed in historically-inspired luxe costumes that echo the sumptuousness of days gone by and are presented in a sturdy carry case. They’re priced from £89.99. More outfits and accessories are available priced from £9.99 to £39.99. Visit
