Vancouver exhibitions. Solo Show by Blu Smith artist at Kurbatoff Gallery. February 20 – March 6 2014. Don’t miss this interesting event, Yareah friends.
Blu Smith was born in Kamloops in 1968. At the age of 21 he moved to Victoria B.C. where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts. While originally beginning his career as a representational painter, he experimented with various forms and styles including Pop Art before deliberately moving from the `representational image`. This move into abstraction opened the doors to true expression and honesty in his artmaking. Blu’s abstract paintings has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally for over 15 years.
`I look at my work not as individual paintings but as a continually evolving, living and breathing body of work. It really does take on a life of its own. It grows and develops as it will. I sometimes think I have very little to do with it.
The paintings have always been predominantly non-representative but based on organic shapes with strong ties to nature. The organic structures balance with cavernous spaces and are filled with light and glow with atmospheric qualities. This group of paintings is really about the diversity of two different states and the transitions between the two. The real interest lies in bridging the gap between structure and space.` Blu Smith.
