With a collection of hits spanning 3 decades, Belinda Carlisle is one of those rare talents who continue to remain at the top of their game. Now in 2014 the Demon Music Group is honouring her career with the 17 March 2014 release of Belinda Carlisle The Collection – a deluxe CD and DVD package featuring classic hits and 2 brand new recordings along with 18 accompanying videos, released in time for Mother’s Day 2014.
Added to this Belinda Carlisle will be embarking on a 6 date UK tour which will see her perform in Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, London, Bristol and Cambridge from 13 – 20 May.
Belinda Carlisle The Collection delivers the most comprehensive overview yet of Belinda Carlisle’s career with a set that surveys the Go Go’s lead singer’s staggering solo successes of the 1980s and ’90s. It’s a remarkable chronicle of over 8 million record sales around the world, including more than 3 million in the UK alone. Opening with the rousing fan favourite, (We Want) The Same Thing, The Collection is the ultimate showcase of the contagious energy for which Belinda Carlisle is universally renowned.
Ever since she stepped in front of the mic’ during the late 70s with her record-breaking bandmates in the Go-Go’s – the first all-female collective to write and produce their own chart-topping Billboard hits, Belinda Carlisle explored a variety of musical styles, all the while providing listeners with irresistible hooks and unforgettable story lines.
The Collection boasts 15 Top-40 UK singles including Carlisle’s 1987 signature Heaven Is A Place On Earth, the Diane Warren penned I Get Weak, Leave a Light On, Summer Rain and La Luna – all from 1989’s critically acclaimed Runaway Horses; the anthemic Live Your Life Be Free, and 1996’s much-loved In Too Deep. Also included are the nostalgic 1991 hit Little Black Book, which Carlisle wrote with Marcella Detroit of Shakespeare’s Sister fame; the atmospheric Circle in the Sand (a top-40 entry in no less than 7 countries), and the gritty Big Scary Animal from 1993’s reflective, self-penned Real.
The 2 new recordings on The Collection are both shining displays of Carlisle’s continued vocal and musical diversity. While the riveting Sun beams with enlightened lyrics set to a danceable rock tempo, the anthemic Goodbye Just Go is a hard-edged ballad which finds the singer proclaiming her independence with a raw, range-scaling performance. Sun was penned by newcomer Gabe Lopez with long-time Go-Go’s guitarist, Jane Wiedlin, while Goodbye Just Go, was composed by Ellen Shipley who, along with Rick Nowels, wrote many of the classics contained on The Collection (Heaven is a Place on Earth, Circle in the Sand, Vision of You and Do You Feel Like I Feel, to name a few).
From the spine tingling heartfelt delivery on Half the World, to the sheer excitement and joy provoked on her first ever solo hit Mad About You Carlisle’s unique ability to delve full-on into the emotion of any song she tackles is exhibited over the course of The Collection.
Although taking a break from recording new pop material for a decade, Belinda Carlisle has continued to tour on a regular basis both solo and with The Go-Go’s, demonstrating that she’s never lost one ounce of the magic that fans around the globe continue to crave year after year.
In May when Belinda Carlisle returns to the live arena, the unmistakable power exemplified by The Collection will come to life as she plays a variety of venues ranging from Manchester Cathedral to Indigo at London’s O2. For those who have not yet had the chance to experience the energy of a Belinda Carlisle concert, a few hints are provided in the music video for Sun, featured on the DVD in The Collection. Similarly, other aspects of the singer’s compelling visual presence and performance prowess are highlighted on the timeless clips for Mad About You, Heaven is a Place on Earth and La Luna.
Faithfully surveying Carlisle’s unforgettable string of worldwide smash hits, Belinda Carlisle The Collection is the definitive set for both long-time fans and listeners just discovering her remarkable legacy. The life-changing songs, that one of a kind voice and the charismatic videos which brought the music to life on screen are all here. From the 1980s to the present Belinda Carlisle has remained a striking figure on the global pop scene. And as evidenced by her new recordings on The Collection she’s sure to continue making that impact for many years to come.
In addition to the release of The Collection, there will be an additional release on 17 March for the ‘die-hard’ collector Belinda Carlisle The Anthology, a 3CD/2DVD set comprising more than fifty studio and live tracks. Complemented by almost as many video and TV clips, The Anthology is the Carlisle collector’s dream package. In addition to the inclusion of global chart hits spanning 1986 to 1999, the set boasts recently captured stage performances.
Three decades and going strong, Belinda Carlisle is a pop entity to be reckoned with!
