Tasting teams at prestige wine-lovers magazine Decanter have chosen Faustino I Gran Reserva 2001, a leading Rioja, as their top wine of 2013.
In the course of the year, the magazine’s experts sampled more than 3,200 wines from all over the world for their annual ranking of the Top 50 Wines of the Year, reveals the January number of the magazine (published today)
Faustino I Gran Reserva 2001 scored 19.25 points out of possible 20 points in blind tastings to earn top position as the highest-scoring and best-value wine.
Faustino I Gran Reserva 2001, made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes, is described as having a “restrained, mineral style with relevant tannins. Youthful and fresh, feminine and complex. Deliciously decadent with extraordinary vitality in the palate and a long finish. A jewel at this price point”.
Faustino I Gran Reserva 2001 is priced at between GBP16 and GBP20 and is available from Sainsbury, Costco, Fine and Rare, Wine Rack, Makro, Mathew Clark and leading independents.
