Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, member of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot, was hospitalized on Tuesday in a prison at the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk, Vladimir Lukin, Russian Ombudsman, said to Interfax.

“Tolokonnikova has reached Krasnoyarsk region where she will complete her sentence,” Lukin added. “According to the law, her lawyers and family must be informed of their whereabouts in the coming days.”

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova arrived in Krasnoyarsk, 4,400 kilometers east of Moscow, after more than three weeks of transfer from the prison of the republic of Mordovia, where she was admitted in October 2012.

She was sentenced to two years in prison for staging a punk prayer in the cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the main Russian Orthodox church.

In September, Tolokonnikova declared hunger strike to demand her transfer to another prison after exposing abuses in Mordovia.

** Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk rock band based in Moscow. Founded in August 2011, Pussy Riot has a variable membership of approximately 11 women, who wore brightly colored balaclavas and used nicknames during interviews to avoid identification. They stage unauthorized provocative guerrilla performances in unusual public locations.

In March 2012, three members of the group were arrested and charged with hooliganism. Then, we started to know some identities: Nadezhda Tolokonnikova (22), Maria Alyokhina (24), and Yekaterina Samutsevich (30).

The sentence was extremely hard. Maybe because their topics are not welcome: LGBT rights, opposition to the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and to the Russian Orthodox Church behavior.
