Die hard fans of Star Wars look away now!
Long gone are the days of the snow-white stormtrooper helmets as Ben Moore, founder of Art Below and Andrew Ainsworth, the original creator of the Stormtrooper present Art Wars. Following on from the Saatchi Gallery in London the helmets are on display in Regent´s Park Underground station.
Art Wars is an ongoing project brought about by a collaboration between artist Ben Moore and Stormtrooper-creator Andrew Ainsworth. that invites artists to pay homage to the iconic soldiers of the Galactic Empire by reinterpreting the way a Stormtrooper helmet looks. The project sees stormtrooper helmets left to the creative force of artists including Damien Hirst, David Bailey, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Mr Brainwash, Paul Fryer and Joana Vasconcelos… all putting their signature remix on the iconic design.
The results have ranged from polka dots to pitchforks. The helmets are formed using the original molds built for the first “Star Wars” movie back in 1976. Perhaps the most famous contributor to Art Wars is Damien Hirst, the artist behind the $100 million diamond skull. His entry adds colorful polka dots to a regular white helmet.
